Schematic for the two 23-hours studies whole room indirect calorimeters (WRIC’s).

Bi-level pass through looking from inside the 23-hour studies WRIC.

Air pressurized gasketed entry door to one of the 23-hour studies WRIC’s. Notice the room-within-a-room design. This promotes ease of construction at reduced costs.

Pressurized gasket chamber entry door for each of the 23-hours studies WRIC’s. This particular door included the blood sampling port.

Supply air buffer space for both 23-hour studies WRIC’s.

One of two 23-hour studies WRIC’s. It is essentially the size of a small studio apartment with an interior volume of 24,284 liters. This WRIC obtains metabolic and macro-nutrient utilization measurements during a 23-hour or longer study.

HVAC system for the WRIC air supply to the buffer space that is located behind both WRIC’s. Fresh air from outside is brought in and maintained at a consistent 18 C.

Two Sable Systems Promethion fully integrated instruments within the control room. These instruments measure oxygen, carbon dioxide and water vapor pressure within the WRIC. This eliminates the need for drying the sample gases. Furthermore, their small foot print allows use in areas of limited space.
